TIANTIANBIRTHDAY.JPG
56 viewsTian Tian, Edinburgh’s female panda, celebrates her tenth birthday on 24th August. Born at the Bifengxia Panda Base in 2003, she’s a mere 10 days younger than her rejected pandamour, Yang Guang. There’s actually a bit of confusion about her name because, according to Edinburgh Zoo, Tian Tian means ‘Sweetie’, whereas according to Washington’s National Zoo, whose male panda is also called Tian Tian, it means ‘more and more’ ie more and more bamboo! I was at the zoo to wish Tian Tian happy birthday but disappointingly, though understandably, she preferred to stay out of sight and, according to the panda guide, would be given her birthday present in private. The ultimate present would, of course, have been a baby panda which isn’t as improbable as it sounds as 24th August had been mentioned as the date when the cub watch will start in earnest at Edinburgh Zoo.

Happy Saint Patrick's Day51 viewsTo celebrate Saint Patrick's Day, Yang Guang's keeper has managed to find some Irish shamrock bamboo! Yang Guang, well-known for his voracious appetite, certainly looks as if he has overindulged this year as he's eaten so much that he's turned several shades of green!

MOTHERSDAY.jpeg
On Mother's Day with love42 viewsThis year, Mei Xiang, the Smithsonian National Zoo's female panda, will have a double cause for celebration on Mother's Day as Bao Bao, aged 2, will have Bei Bei, her six months old baby brother to help her spoil their Mom. I was lucky enough to be in Washington a few weeks ago and was enchanted by the antics of all four pandas. Anyone who thinks panda are boring should take a trip to DC! Mar 01, 2016

Don't Worry About a Thing40 viewsTragically, my darling brother, Iain D.A. Young BSc FFA, who designed this website for me, died on 1st November 2015. Iain lived in Jamaica for several years, as did I, which is why I thought the words of 'Three Little Birds', one of Bob Marley's best loved songs were an appropriate title for this picture where he's looking so happy and healthy. Don't worry about a thing, Iain, 'cause every little thing's gonna be all right. Nov 15, 2015
